Iraqi charcoal grills, masgouf fish, and Middle Eastern mezze
Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill
Revered as the best sumac/shawarma in the city by some, and it genuinely is really good. I don't think it's quite worth the level of hype it sometimes gets, but the food is solid, the value is excellent, and the Iraqi charcoal grill element is something genuinely special.
What to Order
The masgouf (charcoal-grilled fish) is the signature dish — don't miss it. The grilled meats are also excellent.
Must Try
Masgouf — Iraqi charcoal-grilled fish. It's the dish that defines this restaurant and you won't find it done better in Toronto.
The Verdict
Really good. Not going to oversell the hype, but Sumaq is a legit destination for Iraqi cuisine in Toronto. The charcoal grill element is authentic, the value is strong, and the masgouf alone makes it worth visiting. Definitely try it.
