Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
The Halal Hit List (halalhitlist.com) is an independently owned halal restaurant guide published from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what the site collects, who else receives data when you visit, and what you can do about it. It applies to halalhitlist.com and every page on it.
What we collect directly
- Nothing to read the site. Browsing rankings and reviews does not require an account, and we do not ask you for personal information to read them.
- Your email address, if you give it to us. The signup boxes on this site send your address to us so we can email you new verdicts, site updates and occasional promotional offers. Signup is optional, and every email includes a way to unsubscribe. You can also ask us to remove you at any time by writing to the address at the bottom of this page.
- Whatever is in a message you send us. If you email a restaurant submission, a correction or a question, we receive your address and the contents of the message, and use them to reply and to follow up on what you told us.
Cookies and advertising
This site is supported by display advertising. That advertising is served by third parties, and those third parties set cookies and read device identifiers when you visit. Specifically:
- Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. This includes the DoubleClick cookie and similar identifiers.
- Third-party ad partners. Other vendors and ad networks in Google's network may also serve ads or set cookies on this site. We do not control which partners those are, and their use of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings, and out of personalised advertising by many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or the NAI opt-out page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Opting out stops ads being personalised; it does not remove advertising from the site.
Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that run its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Analytics
We use Google Tag Manager and product analytics (PostHog) to understand which pages are useful — page views, referrers, approximate country, and which links get clicked. These tools set cookies or store identifiers in your browser. We use the results in aggregate to decide what to write next; we do not use them to build a marketing profile of you, and we do not sell the data.
Other third parties
Restaurant photos, ratings and opening hours are loaded from the Google Places API. Email signups are processed by FormSubmit, which forwards your address to our inbox. Links to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube take you to those platforms, which have their own privacy policies and set their own cookies once you arrive. Fonts are self-hosted, so no request leaves your browser to load them.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
- We don't let advertisers influence a verdict or a ranking. Advertising on this site is bought programmatically and is unrelated to the editorial process described on our Methodology page.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live — Canada (PIPEDA), the EU/UK (GDPR), or California (CCPA/CPRA) — you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to withdraw consent to marketing email. We honour these requests regardless of where you live. Email us and say what you want done; we will action it and confirm.
You can also control advertising and analytics cookies yourself at any time, through your browser settings or the vendor opt-out links above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — a new advertising partner, a new analytics tool — we update the “last updated” date at the top of this page and revise the text. There is no archive of previous versions; the current page is the policy.
