This one has a clean answer, confirmed by the company itself: McDonald's in Canada is not halal, anywhere.
The record
When asked directly, McDonald's Canada has confirmed that no menu items are halal-certified at any Canadian location — a position it has held consistently.
The halal McDonald's story people half-remember comes from Dearborn, Michigan, not Canada: two restaurants there sold halal McNuggets and McChicken sandwiches for about a decade, until a lawsuit alleging non-halal chicken had been sold as halal ended in a $700,000 settlement in 2013. McDonald's shut the program down entirely rather than fix it — and has stayed out of halal in North America since.
The grey-zone question
People ask about the Filet-O-Fish, fries, and hash browns. The honest framing: those items make no halal claim, carry no certification, and come out of kitchens that also handle bacon and non-halal meat. Whether meat-free-from-a-shared-kitchen meets your personal standard is your call — but "halal McDonald's" doesn't exist in Canada, and the company doesn't claim otherwise.
The better move
The GTA's halal burger scene is genuinely excellent — arguably the strongest halal category in the region. The spots below are dedicated halal operations we've actually visited.
