No — A&W in Canada is not halal. And this page exists partly to kill a specific confusion.
Grass-fed ≠ halal
A&W's whole brand is wholesome sourcing: grass-fed beef, chicken raised without antibiotics, eggs from vegetarian-fed hens. That halo makes people assume halal-adjacency. It isn't. Halal is about slaughter and handling, not diet or hormones — and A&W Canada makes zero halal claims because none of its supply is halal-certified.
Two more sources of confusion worth naming:
- Singapore. A&W there is MUIS-certified halal. Different market, different supply chain, zero relevance to Canada.
- Location rumors. Claims about individual halal A&W locations circulate in community groups from time to time; none we're aware of are backed by verifiable certification. If a location claims halal, apply the standard test — current, dated certificate — before believing it.
The better move
If the craving is a burger, onion rings, and a root beer: the spots below are dedicated halal burger kitchens across the GTA. (Root beer, you can get anywhere.)
