The honest take

The strongest halal dessert categories in the GTA right now are South Asian mithai and Middle Eastern kunafa — deep benches, high verdicts. Gelato and ice cream are more hit-or-miss (Royal Gelato Cafe in Pickering, No. 118, and MADO's Turkish ice cream downtown, No. 88, both landed at Decent). Chase the kunafa and the mithai first.
