The Best Halal Chinese & Hakka in Toronto (Every Spot Verified)

Halal Chinese is one of the most-asked-for and least-documented cuisines in the GTA. Here are the halal Chinese and Hakka spots we've actually visited — hand-pulled noodles, soup dumplings, and Manchurian chicken, with halal status checked in person.

The Best Halal Chinese & Hakka in Toronto (Every Spot Verified)

Halal Chinese is one of the most-requested cuisines we get asked about — and one of the hardest to pin down, because most Chinese restaurants aren't halal and "halal" signs aren't verification. Every spot below was visited in person, halal status checked on our visit, and scored. Two different traditions show up here: mainland-style halal Chinese (soup dumplings, hand-pulled noodles) and Hakka — the Indo-Chinese style of Manchurian and chilli chicken that the GTA is quietly one of the best cities in the world for.

The Hits

Chinese Halal Restaurant — the North York standard-bearer

No. 51 · Hit · North York · $$ · 4.1★

Exactly what it says on the sign: authentic halal Chinese cuisine, soup dumplings, and family-style dishes, open daily 11:30 AM–9:30 PM. This is the spot to bring a group and order across the table.

Order: soup dumplings, then let the table go family-style.

Omni Noodle Palace — halal hand-pulled noodles, late

No. 106 · Hit · North York · 4.5★

Authentic hand-pulled noodles with multiple locations and late-night hours — a rare combination for fully halal Chinese. Open daily to 9:30 PM.

Order: the hand-pulled noodles, hot.

Orient Express — Omni's original flagship

No. 107 · Hit · Scarborough · $ · 4.4★

The original location behind the Omni hand-pulled noodle name, in Scarborough. Same noodle pedigree, wallet-friendly, and it earned its own Hit verdict on our visit.

Order: hand-pulled noodles again — this is the source.

Magical Taste of China — worth the drive north

No. 89 · Hit · Barrie · $$ · 4.5★

If you're north of the city, this is the one: authentic halal Chinese — dumplings, noodles, and family dishes — with a 4.5 rating and a Hit verdict. Proof the halal Chinese scene reaches well past the GTA core.

Order: dumplings and a family-style noodle dish.

The Hakka spot

Lucky Chinese Restaurant — verified halal Hakka

No. 87 · Decent · Toronto · $ · 3.9★

The Hakka entry: Manchurian chicken and chow mein done in the Indo-Chinese style, and — importantly — halal-verified on our visit. It landed a Decent rather than a Hit, but for a confirmed-halal Hakka craving at a low price point, it does the job. Closed Tuesdays, and open late (to 11 PM) on Friday and Saturday.

Order: Manchurian chicken, chow mein on the side.

Why this list is short (and honest)

Five spots, not fifty — because we only list places we've actually visited and verified. Halal Chinese and Hakka are underdocumented precisely because so few places are genuinely halal, and the ones that are rarely advertise it well. If you know a halal Chinese or Hakka spot we haven't hit yet, that's exactly the kind of tip that gets a place onto the list.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best halal Chinese restaurant in Toronto?

Based on real visits, our top halal Chinese verdicts are Chinese Halal Restaurant in North York (No. 51, a Hit — soup dumplings and family-style dishes), and the Omni Noodle Palace / Orient Express hand-pulled noodle family (No. 106 and No. 107, both Hits). All were confirmed halal in person on our visits.

What is halal Hakka Chinese food?

Hakka Chinese is the Indo-Chinese style — dishes like Manchurian chicken, chilli chicken, hakka noodles, and chow mein — that developed in the Chinese community in India and is now a GTA staple. Many Hakka spots run halal because of their South Asian customer base, but it is not automatic. In our list, Lucky Chinese Restaurant (No. 87) is a verified halal Hakka spot.

Where can I get halal hand-pulled noodles in Toronto?

Omni Noodle Palace in North York (No. 106) and its original flagship Orient Express in Scarborough (No. 107) both do authentic hand-pulled noodles and both scored a Hit on our visits. Omni has multiple locations and runs late.

Is Chinese food usually halal in Toronto?

No — most Chinese restaurants are not halal, and pork and non-halal chicken are common. That's exactly why this list exists. Every spot below had its halal status checked in person; we don't list places we haven't verified.
