The Best Halal BBQ & Smokehouses in Toronto (Verified)

Smoked brisket, ribs, and deli meat — halal. From a Michelin-recommended smokehouse to a 4.9-rated sandwich counter, here are the halal BBQ and smoked-meat spots we've visited and verified across the GTA.

The Best Halal BBQ & Smokehouses in Toronto (Verified)

Halal BBQ used to mean a grill and some kebabs. Not anymore — the GTA now has genuine low-and-slow smokehouses, a Michelin-recommended one among them. Every spot below was visited in person and halal-checked on our visit. Where a place is only partly halal, we flag it — that's the whole point of this list.

The Hits

Northern Smokes — the Michelin-recommended one

No. 105 · Hit · Scarborough · $$ · 4.6★

A fully halal, Michelin-recommended smokehouse in a Scarborough strip mall doing smoked brisket, ribs, and platters. This is the one to send people who don't believe halal BBQ can compete at the top end. Open daily, to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday.

Order: brisket and ribs on a platter — bring people to share.

East Meats West — a 4.9-rated smoked-meat counter

No. 59 · Hit · Mississauga · 4.9★

Halal deli-meat sandwiches, smoked meat, and fresh-butchered meats — with a nearly perfect 4.9 rating. It keeps deli hours (closed Mondays, short Fridays), so plan around them, but the sandwich is worth it.

Order: the smoked meat sandwich.

Gyumono Japanese BBQ & Sushi — a different kind of BBQ

No. 69 · Hit · Pickering · 4.7★

Not a smokehouse — this is halal Japanese yakiniku: cook-your-own ribeye and marinated meats at the table, plus sushi and sashimi. A Hit on our visit, and one of the only fully halal ways to do Japanese BBQ in the GTA. Open to 11 PM Friday–Sunday.

Order: the marinated ribeye, and a sushi round while the grill heats.

The Solids

  • Chainsmoker Urban Halal Barbecue (No. 45 · Solid · London · 4.5★) — American-style halal BBQ, smoked meats, and platters. Worth knowing if you're out toward London.
  • SumiLicious Smoked Meat & Deli (No. 136 · Solid · Scarborough · $ · 4.5★) — genuinely good halal smoked-meat sandwiches and poutine. Heads up: not everything on the menu is halal, so order the halal items specifically.

One to order carefully

  • Rock'N Deli (No. 116 · Decent · Oakville · 4.4★) — smoked-meat deli sandwiches and curly fries, but halal options vary by location — confirm at the specific spot before you order.

The honest take

The top of halal BBQ in the GTA is genuinely excellent now — Northern Smokes would hold its own in any smokehouse conversation, halal or not. The trap is the deli category, where "smoked meat" and "halal" don't automatically go together. That's where verifying in person actually matters, and why two of the spots above come with a caveat instead of a blank endorsement.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best halal BBQ in Toronto?

Based on real visits, Northern Smokes in Scarborough (No. 105, a Hit) is our top halal BBQ pick — a Michelin-recommended, fully halal smokehouse doing smoked brisket, ribs, and platters. For smoked-meat sandwiches, East Meats West in Mississauga (No. 59) holds a 4.9 rating and a Hit verdict.

Is there a halal smoked brisket spot in Toronto?

Yes. Northern Smokes in Scarborough (No. 105) is a fully halal smokehouse specializing in smoked brisket and ribs, and it's Michelin-recommended. It scored a Hit on our visit.

Where can I get halal smoked meat (deli-style) in the GTA?

East Meats West in Mississauga (No. 59, Hit, 4.9★) does halal smoked meat and deli sandwiches with fresh-butchered meats. SumiLicious in Scarborough (No. 136, Solid) also does halal smoked-meat sandwiches — but note not everything on their menu is halal, so order carefully.
